FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. So, who are you?

Swansea Copper Folk is a non-profit-sharing venture run by Andrew McKay & Carole Etherton. Our aim is to encourage traditional music-making in Swansea. All money collected goes to cover the costs of the venture.

2. How do we contact you?

Email us at copperfolk@GMX.com or telephone (01792) 386283. Mobile numbers 07434 674073 (Carole) or 07849 840540 (Andrew). There's also a phone on the boat, 07785 347549, which will get us in the last half hour before we sail.

3. What is the boat like?

Copper Jack is a custom-built River Cruiser (NOT a barge, they tell us) constructed in 2013. It has a wide, stable deck with moveable seating, an a;;-weather canopy and heating. It is run by the Swansea Community Boat trust.

4.  What about refreshments?

The boat is licenced for the sale of alcohol. Bottled beers from a local brewery is on sale, as is (less local) wine. Bottled water, tea, coffee and snacks are also available. Please do not bring your own food or drinks aboard - proceeds from the bar go towards keeping the Trust afloat.

5.  And other ... facilities?

Don't worry - the boat has all the facilities you'll need for a comfortable trip. Just don't all try to use them at once!

6.  Will there be a PA available?

No. The cabin has great accoustics, the engine is quiet and the setting intimate. No-one should need a PA to be heard. And in the time saved by not having to set the PA for each performer, we can get in an extra couple of songs.

7.  Can I bring a musical instrument?

You certainly can, as long as it doesn't need plugging in. Please remember that the idea is to take turns and share, so don't expect to play for the whole trip. And please ask before playing along with others - it can be distracting if you're not expecting it.

8.   Can I just come to listen?

Absolutely. We welcome attentive listeners. And who knows - it may inspire you to have a go yourself one day. That's how we all started out.

Any other questions - just ask. We may not know, but we can usually make something up!
