Making Music Afloat

Swansea Copper Folk is all about participation and involvement in music making.  Of course people are welcome to come along to listen to the music, but with spaces limited, we are mainly inviting along those of you who like to share your own music with others.

We are mainly interested in the traditional styles of music and song as played in Britain and Ireland before music became an industry.  We welcome modern songs written in those styles as well, and it is always interesting to hear traditional music from other cultures.  We favour strong choruses, and encourage everyone to join in wherever possible, but instrumental music is also welcome.  The key word is variety.  If in doubt - ring us on (01792) 386283 and ask.

The format for the trip is that everyone who wants to share their music will be invited in turn to perform one number.  Once everyone has had a go, we'll go round again.  There is no PA, so you can stand or sit wherever you like.  We like to join in where there is a chorus, or good opportunities to harmonise along with the song. The cruise along the Tawe and back lasts about 1½ hours. Thus with a 3:00pm sailing, we'll finish about 4:30 - still daylight most of the year!

The video below was taken by the late John Owens on the first Copper Folk boat trip, Sunday 25 January 2015 and shows you exactly what happened!
